Beach Scene Ocean Blue Shadow Box

Hello friends ,

8x8 Beach Scene Ocean Blue Shadow Box

I absolutely love the beaches and the mangalorean in me makes it more like Home . I can relax in the sun, watching and listening to the gorgeous ocean while my son is entertained with sand, water, and all the fun those entail. Mangalore (My home town) is a picturesque city situated between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghat mountain ranges. Mangalore stands in the vicinity of some of the most scenic beaches of the country. If you are planning a trip to this coastal city and want to enjoy the beauty of the seashores, a visit to the wonderful beaches near Mangalore is a must. Most of our summer vacations are in Mangalore where we connect with our roots and  get pampered. Our family trips to the beaches add up to our collection of shells over the years !

8x8 shadow box without the cover

Finally I decided to go ahead and make something to treasure these memories and my son was all happy to share his collection for this creation. I can say that - Every shell has a story  here . They come from our travels to Goa , Pondicherry and Mangalore .

Here are easy-to-follow instructions for you to make your own beach shadow box with all sand, shells and pictures if you want to add.

Diorama Beach Scene Ocean Blue Shadow Box a 8" by 8" hand painted little bit of the beach.

  • shadow box
  • gesso to prime the box
  • texture paste
  • embossing paste for the water froth creation
  • stencil
  • chalk paints shades of blue
  • sand from Diy Kit - Sand Art, Aqua
  • shells from our collection
  • gold foil stickers
  • craft bond foam mounting circles or squares
  • super glue

This creation is created along with my 8 year old so it was more fun involving him in the process of making this Memory box . He said he wanted to paint the shadow box and I let him do it .
He first layered the brown box with white gesso and waited for it to dry completely .

After drying , I created  textures using  Mudra Geometric Stories 6x4" stencil and texture paste to create the dimensions on the corners of the shadow box cover . Then we chose to paint it with blue /aqua chalk paint and covered the whole box except the back end.

Inside the shadow box we drew the waves with a pencil to mark the places where the shells will be glued and the the sand part and waves will be created . We choose the smaller shells that we will stick and bigger heavier ones would rest on the base .

I have created beach wave texture with Little birdie Embossing texture paste - Frosty fizz. Little birdie Embossing texture paste is a Thick heat embossing paste perfect for adding textures and dimensions to projects and it Dries to a matt finish. The embossing texture paste is amazing and very easy to use. It can be easily applied through the stencils .This texture paste needs heating after application and on heating it creates bubble like texture. The resultant texture can be controlled by using controlled use of heat. The more you heat, the more bubbles start appearing.

To keep the design easily seen I have heat set this till the point the bubbles start appearing. I have used a palette knife to create this texture on the curvy background .

The sand area was first coloured with driftwood shade chalk paint  and then the sand was filled in .
The sand was created with 2 different shades of sand that came in as a part of a Diy Kit - Sand Art, Aqua . This was a birthday gift my son had received and he had not used this shades while he used that kit .

The shells were glued on the sant texture and some big ones were rested on the base . The shadow box cover was decorated finally with the gold glitter foil sentiments . I wanted to add a picture inside the shadow box but didn't find a suitable one or where we all three were there...[something we need to click when we are at the beach the next time ] So we decided to go with stickers inside for this too.

For one side of the shadow box cover  my son decided to have the anchor chipboard embellishment and on the other side some lovely shells . My son even added his favourite Star fish which is a little one and broken but  he found on this on a  beach, so it had to go with the "memories" sentiment

. He remembered one of his favorite  book  "How to catch a star " while he completed this creation !

Now this decorative box, painted with soft shades of ocean blue and creamy sand,
seashells embellished becomes a part of our Beach loving family !!

Rainy Day Inspiration

Hello Crafty peeps ,
I'm all excited to share a few of my crafty experiments. I still can't get over the chipzeb collection that Mudra has newly launched . Have you checked it ? If not please do...  You can see a few of my favourites in today's post .

Mixed media wall art - A rainy day inspires this moody, neutral color palette with a hint of feminine shades. Here’s how to precipitously add it to your home decor . I am sharing a 8x8 mini Mixed media wall art which will be framed and used as a wall decor . I started creating this keeping in mind I needed something inspiring using the New chipzeb releases.

I have recycled a price tag and repurposed it as the base of my creation . I started the creation with applying gesso to the background so that the colors flow easily on the surface or the base . After the gesso is completely dry I have used texture paste and  Leafy Peeks 6"x6" stencil and created this texture on the base.  I chose to go with darker background and hence used alcohol inks to colour them. I have created a moss colour background as inspired by all the little things around me. These are the  rainy season colour palette !!

I wanted to go with bright and lovely colours over the dark background so I have used the Brick chipzeb kept them uncoloured. I have cut it into two halves and used them on the corners to give a nice visibility .

The highlight of the wall art as per my designing was to be the sentiment so keeping that in mind I  have filled  the center part using  Gears chipzeb and Victorian Circle Frame Chipzeb . I have painted them blue and splashed gold on it to create texture . I have decorated it further with flowers and Spring Foliage chipzeb bringing in a feminine touch.

I have added glass beads in between to create more textures . The creation is completed with a sentiment from Supergirl stamp set .

This creation is all in all an inspiration for our ongoing  Mudra Challenge #22 "Stamps,Stencils & Something new" ."Something new" refers to anything from Techniques, tools or embellishments so please do mention what "New" you have used in your creation !

Here's the challenge link. Do not forget to participate in challenge #22.

Finally I have a vintage card to share , it is  made using my scrap stash ! Sometimes it's fun to play along leftovers and adding some chipzebs totally converts the look of it as you see here .

I have used very few supplies here and brought out an striking vintage card just using Scribble Circle Chipzeb and sentiment from Supergirl stamp set . Here again the colour pallette is rainy day one and the blue shades of flowers stand out with it !!

As you all know MUDRA is giving 10K worth MEGA Giveaway goodies, Are you playing along? If not then here is a link to the all steps. I am sure this you don't want to miss. Hurry and you may be one of our lucky winner. Best Wishes!!

Special Moments with Spellbinders botanical bliss

Hello friends ,
I am here today to share some wonderful creations I made for an upcoming wedding in the family .

I have this clean and simple card to share today that I made using the gorgeous dies from Spellbinders botanical bliss collection SHAPEABILITIES STACEY CARON BOTANICAL BLISS BOTANICAL MEDALLION ETCHED DIES.

I won a 25$ gift voucher from Spellbinders at Hussena's Blog hop in February this year . These dies were shipped to a USA address and later on brought home by my inlaws who were there visiting my sister in law in the US. After a long wait of 4 months I had them in my hands and I didn't waste time to start creating with it !

I've die cut from gold foil cardstock to create the background of the card and for the first time loving all the glitzy effect ! I have used the center die cut scrap part to create a base for the tattered lace couple . I have adhered it in the center with a double sided tape to give dimension effect . I have  added the flowers and the "congratulations" sentiment to complete this card .

Coming to the next creation that is themed exactly for a wedding and goes out as a personal wedding invite from the couple . I got an opportunity to create a few pieces for the ceremony , This wedding invitation is sized 6.5"x 4.5" .

I have used Spellbinders Arched Elegance pocket here . I've die cut from gold foil cardstock  and made them as decorative corners to the vintage themed center . The card is completed with a "Now and Forever sentiment . I also went ahead adding small flowers to go with it and completed the creation .

I'm glad to have given this a try and I am over the moon, absolutely excited and bursting with pride, I love my work & make sure I give my best each time.... when it comes back as such a lovely feedback I just can't thank them enough !!

Im playing along
