Quarterly Crafting Goals

 Hello friends

Yes I am talking about my Crafting Goals and putting it up; Hoping that this will make me more responsible toward it !

I was able to achieve much of my goals in the last 3 Quarters but I need to be more focused. I felt I was all over the place while trying to achieve the set goals. Most of my goals are still the same, but there a few tweaks here and there. So, without further ado, I present to you my Crafting Goals for this Quater or call It all that I want to do before 2018 :p

USE MY ACCUMULATED CRAFT STASH
Over the past few years, I have accumulated a lot of pattern paper pads, stamps, stickers ,ribbon, etc.
So I have decided that this year, if I feel like I need new inspiration then I'm going to "Shop My Stash". Ever few weeks, I'm going to use my stamps, dies, embossing folders in rotation so that all get used. Also I will be buying only basic crafting stuff that too when required.

POST AT LEAST ONE CARD EVERY WEEK

I really enjoy the creative pressure of making a lot of cards during the craft fairs, but I do not post them simultaneously. Making new card really makes me feel good .
I will strive and do my very best to uphold it!

SUBMIT TO MORE CHALLENGES
I did participate in a few challenges and to be true, they did help me come out of my comfort zone. I'm planning to do more of it. So, I guess I'm just going to continue doing it more and more and more....

TRY MAKING SHAPED CARDS
I’m going to start by making regular cards in different shapes, then as I master that .

SEND MORE BIRTHDAY CARDS
I have realised that over the years, I make a lot of cards, but forget to post it out on time to my near and dear ones on their special days.

PUT MYSELF OUT THERE MORE
I am going to try, try, try... and keep trying. I had a lot of success last year and I want to do even bigger and better things this coming year - so I have to keep trying!

BE A BETTER CRAFTING COMMUNITY MEMBER
I follow quite a few blogs I will aim to comment more, to support more and to explore more.
There's a whole load of talent and inspiration out there and I don't want to keep missing it!

TAKE BETTER PHOTOS
This year I want to excel with props and make the aesthetics of card photography more eminent.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF
I want to do something new this year. So I am thinking of starting a series on my blog. I think I will do a series on card making techniques, that will be fun!.

AND FINALLLYYYYY………..
HAVE FUN WITH IT

Yes I will still want to keep getting better and better than what I’m right now, and then better myself some more. But I will do it all whilst having fun. So, I do hope you'll keep joining me throughout 2018 to provide support and encouragement as I keep working towards these goals.

3D over the hill Scenery.

Hello Friends
I have tried to create a scene here :P

For all my love for papers and hoarding them, at times I wonder what I want to do with them ?

Today I just decided to get going and put some papers in use . The best way is Die cutting isnt it ?
Die cutting for cards and layouts is a no-brainer and so much fun to do.  I started Die cutting way back in 2012 and I use The Sizzix Big Shot Die Cutting Machine. It lets you create perfect shapes and emboss beautiful textures, all with no wires or software. The Big Shot is an excellent die-cutting machine for beginners and more experienced crafters alike. Simply turn the handle to spin the smooth, heavy duty rollers on the machine, and let the machine work its magic on your paper, card or fabric as it passes through.

Design and create your own one-of- a- kind cards, invitations, scrapbook pages, home d├ęcor, fashion, altered art, quilting and more at the turn of a handle. You'll have professional quality creations at your fingertips.

Now there are so many new and updated options For all those who want to know more about Die cutting here is The Ultimate Guide To Die Cutting.

For this creation -

  • I have created a Over the hill scene here using dies from MFT Die-namics Stitched Basic Edges .

  • The train is from Itsy Bitsy Thin Cut Dies - 3D Scenery.

  • Happy is a die cut again and birthday is stamped

  • I have adhered the diecuts with double sided foam tape to create 3D scene or Pop up the elements .

Sometimes simple things become the need of the hour and keeping it simple joy for life !

Newton Dreams of London

Hello friends ,

I have been playing along  “The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge” and it is a challenge to color something everyday even if it’s for five minutes.
This card is created as I play with my copics and learn the tips and tricks along .
  • The card background is grey depicting the London weather.
  • I have added a second layer on the card that is coloured with water colour crayons.
  • I have used bristol board with my favourite colour combination of blue, navy and lavender here  as they are the shades of the evening sky .
  • The Big Ben and the Cat are stamps from Newton Dreams of london from Newton Nook designs .
  • I have coloured the stamped images with my copics .
  •  The sentiments are from the same stamp set and further I have added a washi  tape and some pearls to complte my creation .

This card is dear to me as we visited london this year and got the chance to see and hear the Big Ben.
Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower as well.

Big Ben has fallen silent for major repair work expected to last until 2021. The midday bongs were the last regular chimes from the famous bell until the repairs to its tower are complete. It will still be used for special occasions, including New Year's Eve and Remembrance Sunday. The "drab" colour scheme on the Great Clock will also be changed to give it a more "vibrant" look, is all in news

Ending this post with a  picture of my little boy , who only wanted to see the Big Ben during our visit to London .

Our First fall and a Fall card

Hello Friends

The first leaves are falling and we are experiencing our First fall season in this year in Birmingham UK !In India Autumn is a season only thought about in schools as we don't experience this season .
We grow up watching pictures of fall festivities and I have always wanted to see the colours in person. This year we are experiencing it so I am very much able to relate to it !

Here is a leaf my son has brought home to put it in his memory album and we are grateful for this Day and hence I have added a hand lettered Thank you note on it .

All this inspired me to create my first fall card . This is a 6x4 size base card . I have used Autumn themed pattern paper and love the fall leaves print on it .

I have used clearly besotted Warm SOLUTIONS IV Clear Stamp Set I won at the Simon says in June. This is a mini set and I loved the cup cakes and coffee combination . I have used camlin artist pencil colours to colour the cupcakes and sharpies for the coffee mug. I have added the sentiment from Somebunny I Love - MFT Stamp set . I have given distressed edges to the card and added a chipboard heart to complete the card .

Sometimes it becomes necessary to remind yourself to slow down and take care .When it comes to pampering myself it's all about cupcakes and coffee for me ! Whats that keeps you going ? would love to hear from you !

Birthday Card For a Baker !

Hello friends

Don't let expectations and the thought of perfection prevent you from actually finishing what you start.Sometimes the main goal is to simply FINISH.
CELEBRATE that you did it.

I have realised that with whatever I have I can do much more or haven't been seeing it in that perspective and hence I came up with my #52weeks52crafts challenge for myself . Taking this forward with loads of learning on the way !

Todays creation is a card, dedicated to all my baker friends .

I have used Paper piecing technique for this card . Paper piecing is a technique that provides additional interest to a card . Images are typically colored with marker, watercolor, pencils, etc., then cut out and arranged. Paper piecing is a great alternative to coloring that allows you to add texture, interest, and pattern to your projects. In addition, it is lots of fun!!

I have used 2 different pattern papers from Hobby craft water color paper pad  and completed the apron and the hat here . This stamp set came along with a stamping magazine here in UK.

Things to keep in mind when you are trying this out

  • Choose images with large open areas
  • Use sharp detail scissors Cut along the center of the stamped line. This ensures your pieced element will be neither too small nor too large.
  • Cut out the patterned paper. Hold your scissors still and slowly turn the paper into the blades to maintain the best control.

I just love the Papermania Solid Premium Cardstock Colossal and the wonderful colours it consists . I chose to go with a shade of blue here and layered it with a beautiful print from Its a Boy paper pad cavania london .
CIC423 Birch Press Designs Cupcake Bouquet I have created inspired by the colours and cue to baking.

Birthday Pop up inside card

Hello friends ,

Creating cards for kids is always fun and It gives me a reason to try out something new. Today I have tried my hands on a Pop up card .

The front of the card is kept pretty simple with stamped images from IN MY HEART Mama elephant stamp set . I have colored the little people with Copic Markers and fussy cut them out.  I have adhered them with double sided foam tapes to give them dimension .The background is made with MFT Die-namics Stitched Basic Edges here .

I totally enjoyed colouring these lovely kids and my son noticed that each one needed to have a smile on their face so I went ahead to add it  :)

Inside the card I have introduced a pop up wish :) Which is adhered with 2 paper strips from the good old technique. I have the pop up tutorial here

The gifts are stamped images from clearly besotted stamp set , they are watercoloured with watercolour pens . The girl also belongs to the same  IN MY HEART Mama elephant stamp set and she dint get a place on the front of the card  so we have her here along with the presents ! I have used Mft Die-namics Ocean Waves for the background and Die-namics Stitched Basic Edges here .

The only memory I recollect of making a inside pop up card is with  Hobby Ideas crafting supplies in 2012 for a Workshop . I have been a hoarder of papers and ephemeras from back then and branched out into working with dies and now stamps too!

Inky Paws rainbow card

Hello Friends

Sharing a card,  created with  NEWTON DREAMS OF LONDON from Newtons Nook .

I just love the Papermania Solid Premium Cardstock Colossal  I have used it as a base of my card .
The second layer is a polka dot pattern paper . I love the way the rainbow stencilling came out as I tried experimenting with my Memento Ink Pads by Tsukeniko. They are a fantastic fresh and vibrant colour choice for any stamper ! I have used Bristol paper pad and morrocon stencil for this.

My Travel Scrapbook

Hello friends

Making a scrapbook is a chance to travel back in time and live in your memories one more time...

I have been lagging back in filling up my personal scrapbook and updating it on the blog ofcourse ! You might have already seen this layout on my Instagram  feed . I have  loads of ideas in my mind and prioritising  what goes up on the blog is stressing me out and feels like its time I seriously plan it up !!

These are pictures from our travel last year to Wayanad Kerala. It was a family trip and loads of memories and milestones to document . As I was packing my craft supplies for my trip all I packed were travel related stamps , stickers , note cards  and ephemera's which I extensively use in my creations so putting together this came easy !

I use canon selphy cp1200 for printing pictures . The Canon PRINT SELPHY allows you to effortlessly print pictures using your smartphone or tablet.

This is my journal as a travel freak and I choose to keep this layout simple . This layout is centred on one picture and I have used up ephemera's I have been hoarding for a long long time now and left loads of space to journalise :)

For layout two , again This layout is centred on one picture. Here I have focused on putting in use all the stickers and ephemera's that I have carried along with me.

As I am crafting regularly here, my scraps are also growing and I intend not to carry them back this time so making as much as possible .

I have tried out a new brown scrap book here and totally loving the A4 format.... This is something I bought in Birmingham at Paperchase. Paper-chase is an international chain of stationery stores which were established in the United Kingdom but has since expanded into Europe, the USA and United Arab Emirates.

They have lovely options in travel journals with beautiful covers and prompts to choose from .  I choose to go with the plain cover and look what I made with mine Here

Do you journal / scrapbook your travels ? I would love to see how you document it , Do let me know will love to drop in and drop some love .

Hope to get regular on creating and updating ;) Leaving you with pictures from the mountains

View from my room at 6am in the morning

Wayanad is a rural district in Kerala state, southwest India. In the east, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a lush, forested region with areas of high altitude, home to animals including Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards and egrets. In the Ambukuthi Hills to the south, Edakkal Caves contain ancient petroglyphs, some dating back to the Neolithic age.

ITAC'17 Challenge 3 - Oceania!

Hello Friends

Time of the year when you can start using the leaves isnt it ?

Last few months have been really awesome learning process for me and I am grateful to be finding so much love and appreciation from all my readers on my self discovery in the form of  Art Journals .

Today's creation is one more from my Art Journal
the theme is
Challenge 3 - Oceania!

I have created a Art Journal page using Warli painting as the focal point. Warli painting is a style of tribal art mostly created by the Adivasis from the North Sahyadri Range in India.

This painting depicts that the rural villagers are blissfully dancing in group, celebrating & rejoicing during the festival time.  I have given this a twist and used a Leaf for painting the scene and kept it black and white .

The Warli paintings are done inside the huts. The walls are made of a mixture of branches, earth and cow dung, making a red-ochre background for the wall paintings. The Warli use only white for their paintings. Their white pigment is a mixture of rice paste and water with gum as a binding. The Warli artists use a bamboo stick chewed at the end to make it as supple as a paintbrush. The Warli wall paintings are done only for special occasions such as weddings or harvests. Taking a cue from all this I have used the earthy colours , white and black.

The Shapes are  inspired by traditional art , The extremely simple Warli paintings use very basic graphic forms: a circle, a triangle and a square. The circle and triangle in Warli come from their observation of nature; the circle representing the sun and the moon, the triangle derived from mountains and pointed trees.

If you wish to read and learn more about this art on its history and existence  please do drop in at Shantha prabhu's blog
WARLI EXTRAVAGANZA where she has it all documented and she is the one who got me attracted to this art form and has extensively worked on this art form .

Here is a step by step procedure on how I have made this

For this page I have used clear gesso and kept the page ready.
I have then used acrylic paints and paint daubers to spread the colours evenly.
To create interest I have swabbed black paint as if done on a wall
I have spattered few white drops around to create interest
I have stuck a dried leaf  which have coloured with white acrylic and then on which I have done the warli painting using black sharpie.
I have added sticker element to highlight the timeless story and given a stencil effect on the corners.
To complete the page I have added a pearl element on the sun.

For This creation I have tried to challenge myself to learn something new and incorporate it in totally different manner .

Thank you so much for visiting & taking the time to comment on my blog. I love to hear from you & truly appreciate your feedback. Have a crafty day!

ITAC 2017 ASIA

Hello Friends

Tried something for the first time and out of my comfort zone but really happy that it turned out the way I imagined ! Today I am all excited to share all about this creations and its stands out to be one of favourite creations till date.

the theme is ASIA

My take on the challenge along with the elements and  taking inspiration from this picture

I used several of the elements for challenge

pigment powders,

Asian flowers

the colors from the mood board.

I have tried to depict India my mother land ,

I have used Hindi for calligraphy ,

Stencilling

Elephant and mandala over it .

For the first time in my life I am staying outside my home country , though I am enjoying exploring this new country and culture I am missing a lots of stuffs back home and this creation transports me back there :) .

I have always admired the elephant paintings and inspired from our travel to Jaipur - Udaipur

City palace Udaipur ,Rajasthan India

Udaipur City Palace is one of the architectural marvels of Rajasthan, located peacefully on the banks of Lake Pichola. This majestic City Palace is the most-visited tourist attraction of Udaipur and often distinguished as the largest palace complex in Rajasthan.

I am creating with very little craft supplies these days as I have was able to carry only a bag full of supplies from my whole Craft room and you know how much we crafters tend to own ;)

After coming to UK I have realised that with whatever I have I can do much more or haven't been seeing it in that perspective and hence I came up with my 52weeks 52crafts challenge for myself .

  • For this creation I have used my acrylic paints extensively , I have used the colours that remind me of turmeric .
  • I have hand drawn the elephant and fussy cut it  (Drawing an elephant after a long gap since I left my drawing classes from Shevgoor sir ) must day It was satisfying .
  • I have hand drawn the mandala and all those who know me from the school days are pretty aware of my love for mehendi (henna designs) the inspiration behind my mandala creation
  • I have tried hand lettered Hindi varmala in the form of a tree , I had actually seen this traditional process of hand block printing on textiles, with rich natural colors, been practised in Rajasthan.
  • I have used the stencilling to give the tile effect and the rustic feel of the place .
  • I have added a sticker saying mother land and little pearls to go with it !
  • The chipboard flower completes the look and adds on a colour to the creation .

This creation in my art journal brings out the best in me for now and I would to explore more as I go !

I am all excited to hear what you think of this creation and what is your favourite element here.....
